Grading, Done Right

Water follows grade. If your yard holds puddles for days, drowns a section of lawn every spring, or sends runoff toward the foundation, the ground is shaped wrong — and no amount of lawn care fixes shape.

We regrade yards so water moves away from the house and off the lawn. That can mean cutting down high spots, filling and compacting settled areas, or reshaping a whole yard that was never finished right after construction. Compaction is the step that matters; loose fill just settles back into the same dip.

Grading is also the first step of most installs we do. New sod, rock beds, and patios all start with getting the ground right underneath.

How It Works

What to Expect

  1. Rylan looks at where the water goes now — low spots, soggy areas, slope toward the house.
  2. You get a plan and a quote for moving the grade the right direction.
  3. We cut, fill, and compact until the yard sheds water away from the foundation.
  4. Finish grade gets prepped for whatever comes next — sod, seed, or rock.

FAQs

Common Questions

Water pools against my foundation. Is that a grading problem?

Usually, yes. Soil settles against foundations over time and the slope reverses. Regrading so the ground falls away from the house is the fix, and it's a lot cheaper than the basement repair it prevents.

Can you level the low spots in my lawn?

Yes. Small dips can be topdressed; bigger settling gets cut, filled, and compacted properly so it doesn't just sink again.

Is my yard too far gone to fix without starting over?

Rarely. Most drainage problems are solved by moving grade in the right places, not redoing the whole yard. Rylan will tell you which situation you have.

Do you grade for new lawns and construction backfill?

Yes. Rough and finish grading for new sod or seed is a normal part of our install work, including new construction yards that were left as builder's grade.
