Lawn Care & Mowing

Aeration & Overseeding, Done Right

Cache Valley soil runs heavy on clay, and clay compacts. A few years of foot traffic and mowing, and the ground under your lawn gets hard enough that water runs off instead of soaking in. Roots stay shallow. The lawn thins out. Then the weeds move in.

Core aeration fixes the compaction — the machine pulls thousands of soil plugs so the ground can breathe again. Overseeding right after is the best value in lawn care: the seed drops into the aeration holes, where it gets soil contact and moisture, and the lawn thickens from within.

Spring and fall are the windows. Fall aeration with overseeding, followed by a sprinkler blowout a few weeks later, sets a lawn up better than anything else you can do in one visit. We can schedule both at once.

How It Works

What to Expect

  1. We schedule for spring or fall, when the lawn can make the most of it.
  2. You mark or tell us about shallow sprinkler lines and buried wires. We flag the heads.
  3. The aerator pulls plugs of soil across the whole lawn.
  4. For overseeding, we spread seed matched to northern Utah lawns and tell you exactly how to water it in.

FAQs

Common Questions

What does aeration actually do?

It pulls small cores of soil out of the lawn. That opens the ground so water, air, and roots can move. Compacted soil sheds water; aerated soil takes it in.

How do I know if my lawn needs it?

If water puddles or runs off instead of soaking in, if the ground feels hard in summer, or if the lawn is thin in high-traffic paths, it needs it. Most lawns here benefit from aeration once a year.

Should I leave the plugs on the lawn?

Yes. They break down within a couple of weeks and feed the soil. Don't rake them.

When will I see results from overseeding?

New grass shows in two to three weeks with proper watering. The lawn thickens noticeably over the following season.
